Black Rice (Kavuni Arisi)
Black rice, also known as Kavuni Arisi in Tamil, is an ancient grain celebrated for its numerous health benefits and striking dark purple-black color. This nutrient-dense rice is packed with antioxidants, particularly anthocyanins, which give it its unique hue and help protect the body from oxidative stress.
Traditionally consumed by royalty in ancient times, black rice has earned the nickname "forbidden rice" due to its rarity and high value. Today, it is prized for its rich nutritional profile, including high fiber content, protein, and essential vitamins and minerals like iron and vitamin E. It is also gluten-free, making it a great choice for those with gluten sensitivities.
